22-year-old Babelyn bagged herself Miss Congeniality award following her zeal, determination and sense of self-belief that disability is not inability as she triumphed over her inability to speak or hear – and emerged the ultimate beauty to represent Mombasa in the national Miss Tourism contest.

Through an interpreter, Ms Mukila told the audience and panel of judges why Mombasa County is a must-visit tour destination.

“Mombasa County has different tribes, all people; and a rich and diverse culture; people who are living together in peace and unity – both local and international populations. In Mombasa County we have the Old Town, Fort Jesus and the best historical sites,” she said.

Ms Mukila beat ten beauties in Mombasa to be crowned the county’s fairest model.

The beauty had first tried her hand at the beauty pageant in 2015 and came second in the county finals.

Through the help of an interpreter she participated again in 2016 – this time round, she won.

Her win in the Mombasa County finals is a game changer in the modeling industry where event organisers often do not accommodate people living with disability.

In the Miss Tourism Kenya finals that took place on Saturday, June 18 in Vihiga, Miss Tourism Homa Bay County Rabella Wendy Omollo was crowned the winner with Miss Tourism Uasin Gishu County Laura Kezia and Miss Tourism Bomet County Winnie Chepeng’etich Rop coming in second and third respectively.
