Six years later investigations into Marikana massacre drag
It took just minutes to shoot 34 mine workers at Marikana on 16 August 2012 but investigations into the matter have dragged on for six years.
No one has been convicted even after a lengthy commission of inquiry.
It was mostly miners who were shot – some point blank, in the back – and killed during a week of clashes.
The deceased included police officers hacked to death, and security guards, one of whom was burnt.
The National Prosecuting Authority and Independent Police Investigative Directorate are pointing fingers at each other over the delay.
